This unique little mushroom was found in a mature Florida scrub ecosystem among slash pine and palmetto. This specimen was only one of many in this colony; however, it was the only one at the peak of maturity. The individuality in this case is the shape. All the other examples I observed were more rounded. In the larger cropping two other examples can be seen, one immediately behind the main subject, and the other in the right most foreground. Both of these secondary examples are nearing the end of their life cycles. With years of nature walks in Florida under my belt I have never seen mushrooms that looked like this. Just a mystical appearance.
